Peekstok machining bulkheads for Stratos II

DARE is proud to announce the cooperation with Peekstok, a metal working company from the Rotterdam area. Peekstok will be producing several bulkheads for the Stratos II capsule module and the injector manifold for the hybrid engine.

Peekstok is a metal working company that specializes in the machining of parts for the shipbuilding and petro-chemical industries. Their expertise and their workshop allow them to process large metal or plastic parts and to machine these down to exact specifications. Within their field they also have the knowledge to work with the tougher metals such as stainless steel, titanium and heat resisting super alloys; Materials that are specifically chosen because of their properties that allow these parts to work in the extreme environments they encounter.

Bulkheads and an injector
For the Stratos II project Peekstok will be producing a number of critical parts in the rocket that require precise tolerances. First of all there are the bulkheads in the capsule module of the rocket. These bulkheads support the payloads and the electronics, the “brain of the rocket” inside the structure and give it the rigidity to survive the shocks and loads it encounters.
Furthermore the injector manifold for the hybrid rocket engine will be machined in the Peekstok workshop. The injector that will be on the flight model is an extended version from the one that is used during the ground tests of the engine. The flight version has extra connection points and extended strengthening to make sure it firmly seals the top end of the combustion chamber, fixes the combustion chamber to the rest of the rocket and at the same time guides the N₂O from the tank down into the combustion chamber at the proper rate. Such a complex task requires a complex piece of metal.
