Stratos II is now recruiting!

Stratos poster

The Stratos II project is moving and well on its way to achieve the goal of building a sounding rocket going to 50km altitude, entirely designed by students. The pure technical side of the project is well on its way. There is however a lot more work to be done on the analytical and logistical side. Also we are looking for organizers that can help us to integrate all different subsystems of the rocket. More specifically the following things are looked for in the project:

  • Payload acquisition: The Stratos II rocket will carry on board a number of scientific payloads to demonstrate the scientific purpose and use of these types of systems. The payloads will be able to, for example, take measurements of the higher atmosphere or test flight electronics onboard the rocket during flight. The payloads will be build by universities, Dutch hogescholen or companies. We need people that want to help finding these payloads and to coordinate the cooperation between the payload providers and the Stratos II project.
  • Launch campaign logistics: A launch site for Stratos II is still being searched for. For the launch campaign logistics you will be actively searching for and contacting launch sites around the world to find the one that is best suited for the launch of the Stratos II. Next to the safety requirements posed by the site, the location of the site and the logistics needed to get team and equipment to the site are also of importance and need to be taken in consideration.
  • PR and communications: The students of DARE want to use this project to bring rocketry for scientific purposes and space technology in general under the attention of the public. This can only be achieved by making use of every option the digital age has to offer. Making use of all creative tools at your disposal you will be the face promoting the project to the world by communicating with press, sponsors and public.
  • System simulation and integration: The total technical overview of the rocket is becoming more and more clear each day. We need people who will evaluate if the system as a whole will perform the way we want it to. Do all subsystems work together the way they should? Are all interfaces defined and do they perform good enough? By communicating and negotiating with all the different subteams in the project you will coordinate their integration and make sure the overall system can perform its mission. Or maybe if you have some experience in structural or aerodynamical analysis, you can apply your knowledge to a system that will actually be build and will be used in practise. Also that is a possibility when evaluating the rocket as a whole.
  • Sponsor acquisition: Finally in this list, but certainly not the least, is sponsor acquisition. The project cannot happen without help from companies and institutions, both financially and in kind. We are looking for people that want to go out and contact technological companies, universities, funds and other large organizations that might be interested in sponsoring the Stratos II mission goals.

If you are interested to join the team and help out with achieving one or more of the mentioned goals, or if you just want more information, please contact us at info@ProjectStratos.nl. Also if you did not find any subject of your liking in the list above, but you feel you can be of great help in any other area, please feel free to contact us.
