DARE unveils Stratos rocket

On February the 18th Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering presented the Stratos rocket which is going to break the European altitude record for amateur rockets when it is launched at Esrange Spaceport in North-Sweden coming March. The rocket was unveiled by the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Delft University of Technology after the project leader Mark Uitendaal gave a presentation on the technology of the rocket and dr. ir. Chris Verhoeven from the TU Delft gave a presentation on the importance of the Stratos project for the TU Delft.
The Stratos rocket is 4 meters tall and weighs about 50 kilograms. The entire rocket has been build by students of the TU Delft organized in Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering. When launched it will reach an altitude of 15 kilometers at a speed of 3600 km/h, shattering the European altitude record for amateur rockets. The rocket will be shipped to the launch site next week for a launch between the 3rd and 13th of March. More information on the Stratos project can be found on the Statos project page.
