On Thursday the 16th of February  a delegation of Project Stratos visited the company Dutch Space in Leiden, where they signed the Stratos II main sponsorship contract. The contract was signed with Bart Reijnen, the CEO of Dutch Space.

Dutch Space B.V.  is the largest space company in the Netherlands and is well known in the international space industry. The EADS Astrium conpany Dutch Space is located in Leiden and focusses on the fields of Solar Arrays, Launcher Structures, Verification & Simulation, Descent & Landing, and Instruments.

Dutch Space was also the main sponsor for the Stratos I project, the predecessor of the current project. Stratos I was launched successfully to a record braking altitude of 12.3 km from Esrange Space Centre in Kiruna in the North of Sweden on March 17th in 2009. The Stratos II project marks the next step on the way to space for the DARE students of the TU Delft.

By becoming the main sponsor of the Stratos II, Dutch Space will support the project financially, but also with knowledge and expertise. We look forward to another fruitful cooperation with Dutch Space.

    Amazing project.
How much thrust did it need to go that high?

    Hello Rick

The first stage of the Stratos 1 rocket consisted of four motors with each around 160kg of thrust. The Stratos II motor will be a lot more powerful still.

    Greetings,
    Rob
